Climate change demands action, and the salon industry is no exception. MBL Beauty Lounge recognizes our responsibility to minimize waste and embrace eco-friendly practices. Join us on our journey towards a more sustainable future.
Aluminum waste alone from salons totals over 1.5 million kg annually! This valuable resource can be endlessly recycled, so why wouldn't we? Recycling aluminum saves 95% of the energy needed compared to virgin production, significantly reducing our carbon footprint. Aluminum foil is just one example – MBL Beauty Lounge is committed to minimizing waste and maximizing recycling across all materials.
The beauty industry is embracing sustainability. Eco-conscious salons are leading the way, partnering with organizations like Sustainable Salons to create a greener future for our planet.
Change takes time, but even small steps make a big difference. At MBL Beauty Lounge, we're constantly evaluating our practices to minimize waste and maximize eco-friendly solutions without compromising on quality or your experience. Join us on this journey toward a more sustainable future of beauty!
Have monthly meetings to train your staff about consumption and all the benefits of becoming sustainable salon. We encourage carbon footprint calculation for as many activities as possible and introduce individual plans and a salon plan with simple steps for reduction.
Install a programmable thermostat and set to a comfortable temperature. For every degree you lower your heat in the 60-degree to 70-degree range, you’ll save up to 5% on heating costs
Turn down the thermostat just 4°F / about 2°C in the winter and up the same degrees in the summer to prevent the emission of nearly 1,100 pounds / 499 kilograms of carbon dioxide annually.
When buying light bulbs for our salon we look closely at the labels. Those marked CFLs (compact fluorescent lights) last 10 times longer and use 66% less energy than incandescent bulbs while delivering the same light levels. CFLs also reduce the release of greenhouse gas emissions and are safer because they burn at a much lower temperature than incandescent and halogen lights.
MBL employees are trained to turn off lights in staff/break rooms, storage rooms and vacant treatment rooms. We installed fixtures that are activated by a motion detector, and dimmer switches in areas in which maximum lamp output is not necessary.
We choose equipment and appliances with energy saving features and unplug all appliances when not in use.
We equipped our salon with recycling bins for paper, plastics, glass, hair-coloring tubes and foils. Our recycle policy extends to collaboration with local organizations to reuse of hair as well to be later used in the manufacturing of wigs.
In a constant search for paper-free alternatives or means to reduce waste by converting to digital substitutes such as: email, mass texts and scannable QR codes., or having forms and surveys on electronic media such as an iPad.
MBL Beauty Lounge installed green shower heads ECOHEADS as it uses up to 65% less water than a regular shower head. Plus doubles the water pressure, enabling color rinse time to be 3x faster. The green shower heads work as a water purifier removing sediment, dirt, chlorine, bacteria and pathogens for better results with minimal effort.
Purchasing a wide variety of eco products to offer our customers, either professional or consumer. We also believe it is a necessity to carefully read the cleaning labels to choose environmentally friendly products to ensure our salon is a safer and healthier environment. MBL purchases non-chlorine bleached and/or chlorine-free paper products with recycled content and choose post-consumer recycled (PCR) content in as high a percentage as possible.
We recruited one of Dubai's leading sustainable Architectual Designers ARQADIAN. They lead by example by considering using as many recycled or repurposed materials as possible for furniture and decor. Thier moto is make it green by building with sustainable materials, recycled metals, energy efficient and other locally manufactured materials.
Eco-efficiency is a practical and systematic approach that businesses can adopt in setting and achieving environmental and business performance objectives. It is very closely associated with and complementary to other concepts such as Health and Safety, Total Quality Management (TQM), and Pollution Prevention (also known as source reduction).
It involves changing processes, finding alternatives, and reducing or eliminating the generation of toxic wastes instead of dealing with problems of cleanup or disposal after the fact. It also includes extending product liability, enhancing material recyclability and maximizing the use of renewable resources.
Eco-efficiency means doing more with less, creating and providing quality products and services while reducing resource use, waste and pollution along the entire value chain. It is not only about managing waste after it is created but strives towards preventing and minimizing waste in the first place. The ultimate goal of eco-efficiency is to establish sustainable businesses while keeping environmental solutions in mind. Simultaneously, businesses increase efficiency while maintaining an environmental integrity.
